Title: FOV issue with navigator and going between nav and main viewer
Post by: gregsage on May 07, 2012, 05:10:01 PM
Finally got the following to look right, but then noticed that I seem to have an issue with the FOV.

It's set to 300 in the main viewer, but no matter what I do, it always shows up in the navigator as 170, and won't accept changes.  If I just bounce it to the navigator and bounce it back to the main viewer, it comes back as 170.

Is this a bug?
Am I missing something like too close to an object or something in navigator?
Am I missing a control somewhere that will fix this?

thx

Hi there,

I'm not sure if this is much help to you, but it kind of supports your observations.

I have been able to get up to: FOV 10, 170, 200, 300, and 500 - so it does accept different figures but, after 300, there is no apparent change.

This would suggest to me that you're possibly backed up against something and so can't get away [?] However...
What I learned a while ago is to tick the 'Fixed Zoom and Steps' in the drop down menu of the Navi. This can allow you to cut through and 'escape'.

I tried this with a bit of a dodge left and managed to get further away by using 'S' in Navi (see attached anim file) - but then when I clicked 'view to main' in Navi with FOVy=600 on both Navi and main camera, the camera reverted to 170 (!) So this is not what you would expect but, thinking about it, discrepancies between the two locations is not that unusual at all.

Maybe someone with more technical knowledge will be able to offer something more.

Interesting fractal, by the way. I'm seeing more fruity stuff recently.

Regards
kAM

300 in theory should be fine but how the Fov may be more then 360° ?

Hmmm, good point.
Sometimes larger FOV figures cause the view to kind of 'fold in' on itself and might begin to start showing multiple smaller versions of the scene.
It doesn't always happen though, so I don't really know why/how it works.

An FoVy over 180 starts giving a wraparound, repeat whatever you want to call it, max FoVy that will transfer between Main panel and Nav Panel has always neen 170. The trick is If you are using 180> in the Nav, after transfer to Main panel go to Camera and set the FoVy manually, when importing an FoVy into the Nav 180> manually set the the Nav FoVy, that simple.

The Nav or main panel will accept whatever you enter as an FoVy, at 360 what I've seen is basically 4 90degree scenes, can make some wild effects.
