Title: Why no 3d Trees, seashells, and natural forms in M3D?

Why aren't there any 3d trees and spirals like seashells?

There are lots of cubes, dodecs, round, and sponge shapes in M3d, and i would love to have a greater diversity of organic shapes, and simple things that are found in nature... plants that turn around in Phi patterns, like cactuses and grasses, ferns, and structures that branch off from each other along axes, like pine trees, chunky IFS tree formulas from games and advanced curved tree formulas... And also lots of seashells, it would be nice to combine 2 or 3 seashells into different axes and multiply them together with other formula to see what happens?


Actually much of my time in M3D is spent looking for things that exist in real life with as much diversity of form as possible, and types of curves and symmetries... isn't it time to see some seashells and trees, and phi spirals mixed in with the boxbulbs and the the more straight ones? a romenesco brocolli for example is a spiral tree IFS whereas the seeds and petals of a plant are a phi pattern?

And there is a Sin but there is no Cos, could there be a way to make spirals and spirographs using SinZ and CosZ at different magnitudes?

Hey thanks Kali!

some very nice forms there! It would also be interesting to apply spiral and tree forms to any parameter using formulas? If you apply IFS with complex symmetry and every iteration is at a different angle, do you think it would make phi and tree forms that preserve some of the shapes of their parent? like bending some of HalTenny's tubes into phi and tree?

Oh! i didnt realise that the code there was not complete, actually the code there is extensions to k3dsurf sample file called gyroid. http://k3dsurf.sourceforge.net/ perhaps also you could mail schmiegel on deviant art to ask him if he has some code for blender etc in C++   :tease:

Mrzoom is much right. IMHO the most fascinating are naturaly looking fractals showing that math realy describes the nature. Alsou, I think, it's pretty interesting how one natural IFS can turn into another. (I have video for that but in 2D and smoothed down)

There are 3D fern IFS. In UF there are escape time 2D formulas for fern, so there could be in 3D, just someone needs to find it first, or at least to put right variables in existing formulas;)

Spiralic rotations and grassiness could be done by unit vector addition I sugested some threads down. In 3D with amazingbox this works like on mandelbrot. Remember geometric nature of triplex and complex number plane.




IMHO, of natural fractals, the most fascinating I found "Entangled Trees". They can be reproduced in M3D, somewhere in threads were glynn formula with entangled tree pattern in the cutt off plane. Maybe "Entangled Trees" is some fundamental mathematic figure jet unknow to science as it apears as often as mandelbrot.

For GIMP users there are various types of cloud/fog/turbulence/noise/plasma filters
which can render, along with other filters, some very "organic" morphological 3D shapes.

I'll put up some stuff in this thread......

There are no trees, seashells and so on, becouse squares and cubes are mutch more easy to make.

Throught one professional artist (Alex something) told that he need technological formulas to generate hi tech scenery. And the mountains, planets and so on. Trees probably could be made in other way, aka copy paste from photos.
