Title: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: alexl on March 29, 2012, 04:45:32 PM Hi all!
I just finished 3DBD whitch contains journey through six surreal 3D fractal worlds. I am confident that it isn't like anything you've ever seen before. The demo on the site can give you some idea of the content, but it is necessary to look at 3D TV in 3D mode, of course. Although you can also watch the disc on a regular BluRay player but it is not so impressive. Link: http://www.sanbase.org P.S. I use my own soft for generation and rendering. It is not only a demonstration of 3D technology but definitely a new kind of Art. :) Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: DarkBeam on March 29, 2012, 04:49:27 PM Wow looks like a good thing, good luck!
Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: Don Whitaker on March 29, 2012, 05:35:34 PM These looks amazing, Alex! I've been following our work for a 5 or 6 years, and drooling over your new 3D fractal landscapes. This disc makes me wish I had a 3D TV. :)
It must've been a neat trick finding someone to help publish a 3D BluRay, I've had trouble finding a service for the normal disks. Best of luck with your project. Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: bib on March 29, 2012, 05:57:14 PM Wow! Congrats for making this project a reality
I wish I had more time to do the same :'( Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: slon_ru on March 29, 2012, 06:20:25 PM Wow, nice!

What's up with all the activation code emails and messages? I'm expecting a 3dbd in the snail mail, no? Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: alexl on March 29, 2012, 06:32:21 PM What's up with all the activation code emails and messages? I'm expecting a 3dbd in the snail mail, no? Activation code is a vestige from another application :) We use Canada post. You should receive the disc in a week or so. I had more time to do the same :'( The problem basically is not the time, the problem is the money :) 3D authoring software costs from $7000 (NetBlender) to $50000 (Sony). It's quite expensive... and there's nothing you can do... Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: marius on April 11, 2012, 01:00:14 AM We use Canada post. You should receive the disc in a week or so. Got it. Very nice & serene. Works like a charm. Your coloring scheme is interesting. Does not seem like escape velocities and such but rather carving the fractal out of a 3d block of colored marble? On-the-fly generated 3d texture I presume? Quite subtle and great effect with the color scheme at work. You seem to also use 3d noise to perturb surfaces or at least their normals? Regarding the flight paths, did you pick long sweeping lines that clip through the fractal for effect (which is great btw) or was plotting an actual flight path through the structure (avoiding the near clipping) too tedious? The near clip 'sphere' suggests a large field of view? What value did you use? Sorry for all the questions ;D Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: alexl on April 12, 2012, 07:42:28 PM I use natural textures like dirt, stones and so on. I used 3D noise only for generation of the water surface in Solaris.
The flight path is almost random, actually it is a set of sines: from=vec3(-sin(-t+0.5),-sin(-t*1.173+0.5),sin(-t*1.821+0.5)); For prevent collisions I use such algorithm: float DE0(vec3 pos) { vec3 z=pos-Nose; // Nose - the position of camera between the eyes return (1.0-smoothstep(0.0,0.065,length(z)))*0.02; } float DE(vec3 pos) { float r; float d0=DE0(pos); float d2=DE2(pos); // the real fractal if(d0>d2) r=d0; else r=d2; return r; } The result is a clipping of objects located close to the camera. Now I have changed this algorithm, I began to melt objects. It looks quite cool, this effect may be used in the second disc. The colormaps have been made manually (I use about 1000 colormaps), I think that an artist can make it much better than any computer :) Concerning the field of view: I use 45 degrees frustum, but you can see quite noticeable distortions at the edges of the screen. Maybe I'll move on to the spherical surface, but in this case the motion of the camera will result that the landscape will move in different directions along the edges of the screen. So I'm not sure it would be better. I think you appreciated a deep water in the "Solaris" and translucent stones in the "Hidden life of stones" :) This can be seen only on 3D TV. Do you also sell a 3D DVD version ? Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: alexl on April 15, 2012, 05:52:37 PM Do you also sell a 3D DVD version ? DVD standard does not support 3D (MVC). It can be only side-by-side format but in this case the resolution would be extremely low - 360x480 pixels. So such fractal picture doesn't make sense. Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: tit_toinou on April 15, 2012, 09:13:04 PM I mean, a DVD that don't respect standards... A DVD to be played on computer (for my video projector) with a particular software, not for a DVD player for TVs.

If I get a 3DTV I will order one for sure!!! Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: alexl on April 16, 2012, 10:30:17 PM I mean, a DVD that don't respect standards... A DVD to be played on computer (for my video projector) with a particular software, not for a DVD player for TVs. I do not understand what it means "DVD that don't respect standards". DVD IS a standard. You can use the DVD disc as a media but in this case the term "DVD" has no meaning - the same way you can use flash or HD. Concerning projector: stereo content should be optimized for particular screen size (in my case 44"-65"), you can not watch the same 3D file on 45" TV and 120" projector. The thing is that the shift (parallax) for distant objects can not be greater than the distance between the eyes (60mm). Therefore 3D content for IMAX and 3D content for home TV are different, in fact 3D movies are made in 2 different versions. Title: Re: 3D BluRay contains 70 min animation Post by: tit_toinou on April 17, 2012, 12:04:28 AM Yeah if you sell me a USB key i'd be happy to ;D . I could watch the movie, give you money for your work & I wouldn't have to download heavy files...

First of all try to download 2 files from: http://www.sanbasestudio.com/3d.htm It's side-by-side demo 1920x1080 (actually 960x1080), size - about 380MB, so it's not too big. |
