this is not supposed to be a nice picture, but rather to remind us what´s inside the images we render.   Both images are exactly the same, the upper one is just a boring section of polynomic power 2 fractal as we usually look at them "from the outside", the picture below has been sliced open along one axis.   I´m going to try to find more interesting examples of "bulb/brot" combinations.

Quite a number of 2D fractals can be found in 3D ones. -1.5 scale mandelboxes contain loads of them, and even another 3D one.
