Title: Saturn & Titan
Post by: element90 on January 31, 2012, 02:48:34 PM
Before Christmas 2011 I released version 1.0 of Saturn & Titan for Linux only. As they are now available for Linux and Windows 7 I think it is time to announce the availability of the software here on FractalForums.

Saturn is a fractal explorer, images can be saved as PNG files typically (750x500) all the necessary parameters are embedded in the file producing what I call a seed file. Seed files can be dragged and dropped onto Saturn's main window and the parameters ebedded in the seed file can be used to recreate the image.

Titan is a fractal expander, it takes Saturn seed files and expands them to the required size, upto a maximum of around 700 megapixels.

The software, user manuals, a user guide and example seed files are available at http://element90.wordpress.com/software/downloads/ (http://element90.wordpress.com/software/downloads/), elsewhere on the blog there are posts containing various screenshots of the software.

Over on this thread http://www.fractalforums.com/other-types/pickover-popcorn/ there are examples of Pickover Popcorn (orbit fractal not the escape time variants) produced using this software. In fact all the pictures I've shown on Fractals Forms were produced using pre-release versions of this software.

Here are some example images produced using Saturn & Titan:

Apologies to those that have failed to get the Windows 7 version working, this is because Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package is required.

This was the first msi package and I tested on the same machine that had Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 installed.

I've disabled the download of the Windows 7 package as soon as I've fixed the problem I'll make it available.

Two bugs have been found in Saturn & Titan version 1.1:

Magnet Model 2 Fractals expand to a blank featureless rectangle. Fixed, version 1.1.1 released.
Nova fractals are displayed incorrectly the first time the are generated and continue to be until the selection of outer colouring is changed. Found after the 1.1.1 release, simple work around is available.
