Title: Martian Fractal: "Mandelbrot Crater" Post by: Nahee_Enterprises on May 17, 2007, 11:04:20 PM Earlier today, somebody had been viewing the Mars images, and they snipped out this small portion of one showing an unusual combination of two craters. (The image has not even been rotated!) :D
(http://www.Nahee.com/Stuff/Mandelbrot_Crater.png) Anyway, they sent an e-mail to the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter team with the suggestion to name it "Mandelbrot Crater". The web page with several size images of the whole area on Mars is at: http://hiroc.lpl.arizona.edu/images/PSP/diafotizo.php?ID=PSP_003273_1675 (http://hiroc.lpl.arizona.edu/images/PSP/diafotizo.php?ID=PSP_003273_1675) Title: Re: Martian Fractal: "Mandelbrot Crater" Post by: makc on January 13, 2010, 08:41:58 PM I would think this combination is very common anywhere on mars. Btw, on subject of craters and fractals, check this out (http://bb.nightskylive.net/asterisk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17256). |
