yepp, the first one wasn't. but the second one is great! a smooth movements and a great room (more important) . and this with only 256 colors.

the cutting/moving shadow still disturbs a bit (ok i am very critical here)...

the pre-latter was not sooo smoooth ... but the latter shows great depth of field, and the best is, each single image while loading is stunning, and the 180 degree change really reveals a completely different image that - on first sight - doesnt show any resemblance of the other one 180 degree rotated ... nice work ... but .... i .... dont ... like .... big ... gifs ...

@Taurus, agreed about shadows, I could have been more carefull. I used on purpose a comibation of "relative to object" and not relative to object. Not sure which one is causing the issue. Would need to be tested.

@Christian, sorry, you don't like anigif because the time it takes to load on slow connections or is there another reason?

@bib some reasons ... limitatio to indexed palette ... loading times ... long time patent protected .... and a little spice of personal taste ;)
they surely are senseful in severel locations ... i just dont like them ;)

I think you guys may have stumbled upon another possibility for a new section in the annual fractal competition.

I've been suggesting that every year since The Beginning, but it gets rejected every time   :'(

Maybe one year...

The last one is nice one. Maybe somewhat lacking colours, but i like flying feel.

Thought I'd join the Animated GIF bandwagon with one of my own fractint formulas:



And varying the p1 from 100,0 to 100,100 in steps of 10 gives the following images which I have built together with Paint Shop Pro 5's Animation Studio (I know, pretty basic but does everything I wish to have in an image editor).

Not bad for a beginner's attempt (haven't a clue what it does but it appears to be a standard mandelbrot with transformations).

If you are concerned, the gif could be a 4th category - restricted to banners.  Then the prize could be prominent display in the rotation or something.

OK, I confess.  I tried this with Lissa's face, but the height map looked ...  unflattering.  The eye-only one worked, so I just had to keep trying variations.  That's the end result.  The only other body part that worked was ...  Ummmmm...  Well...  Nevermind.   :gum:

would be no better use flash (.swf) for animation ?
in case of large image (as from bib example) the file size would be much smaller but quality higher

swf quality is actually much lower in my experience.  The forum should have swf disabled for security reasons anyhow.  It's possible to be extremely malicious with embedded swf files!
