On the other hand, we could end up with a lot of famous people here whose non-PM contact details ought not to be so accessible. To end this conundrum, you ought to be able to hide the contact details from the memberlist entirely. I'm no expert with SMF boards (my business forum is Invision) but they should have similar controls to Invision or phpBB.
