Title: Other fractal art forms
Post by: matera on October 11, 2006, 02:36:26 AM
I was just looking at one of FractalMonster's images at DeviantArt, and it made me recall one of the things I like about crocheting - many crochet patterns are fractal in nature. Particularly in items that radiate out from a central beginning, the stitches branch and recombine in fractal-like patterns. I will have to scan some of my old pieces. I haven't crocheted recently, but I had a lot of fun with it for a while (before I had a computer and could generate fractals the easy way!) and came up with a lot of original patterns.

So, when you look at your grandmother's doilies, think fractal.

Basketry is another art/craft that has fractal-like aspects. So does lace, come to think of it...
