Its been trial and error to get a realistic reflection. Not being familiar with mandelbulb prog, I'm used to using Truespace and Blender, there is a trade off, but it seems by keeping ambient top and bottom colour dark this reduces a lot of light scattering. heres the params.

You've  gotten rid of a lot of light scattering, can't tell what settings you are using without params whether you just cut down Ambience and Specular to do it. There are tradeoffs on Ambient, Spec and Difuse color when dealing with Reflects as well as the Spec value and depth of the reflects themselves.
