Description: Fractal generated by homemade software. It was colored by selecting pixels from an input image: a diffraction pattern rendered and edited in GIMP. I also used GIMP for post-processing.

Thank you Kali.  The more I see of FK's work, the more I appreciate it.

FK - if you can appreciate beauty and go some way towards creating it, you are an artist.  Maybe others have a different definition, but that's mine.  I also admire the great mathematician Pythagoras for giving us the musical scale!

Kali, thanks for the kind words and the excellent suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't feel this sort of image is within the spirit of the rules for the 2D Art section. It seems to be more like a "composition."

Excelent! For me, this surpasses the ones you posted for the competition...
But that's just my opinion, off course! Just for the case, I  think that if you want, you should be able to edit the post and switch images before the votation starts.

@Erisian: welcome to the FK's fan club  cheesy

I'm a mathematician with no artistic background, so using my own algorithms and software is the best part of making fractals for me. Unless you have my particular kind of craziness, using one of the great programs already available is probably the way to go!

I'm a proud owner of Gimp and eagerly await the long overdue Gimp 2.8.  I'm familiar with the diffraction patterns as I frequently do psychedelic photomontages.  It's interesting that you can incorporate images as colour maps.  I also admire you for creating and using your own program when it's so much easier to download some freebies.  Think I'll learn programming and one day create something of my own!

Thank you, Erisian. The diffraction pattern seems to produce a nice effect when used for coloring. Here's what the source pattern looks like:

You've surpassed yourself with this one, FK.  This is stunning!
