IcebergTrafassel quaternionbenesi variation
Trafassel quaternion
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: A quaternion variation by trafassel that contains the original mandelbrot 2d slice, you can guess it from the front to back, a minibrot is shown in the front.
I like this variation, with some sign changes on the dimensions it converts to more roundy bulb versions.
I wanted to ask for permission to use the formula in m3d but did not found the thread... suffering a bit from headache, try to solve it with some  A Beer Cup

The original Ide's Formula thread:

http://www.fractalforums.com/videos/formula-21-%28julia-set-interpretation%29/

for (n = 1; n < zkl; n++) {

   ai = 2 * ai * ar * aj + bi;
   aj = aaj - (aai + aar) / 2.0 +  bj;
   ar = aar - (aai + aaj) / 2.0 + br;
   aar = ar * ar; aai = ai * ai; aaj = aj * aj;
   d = aar + aai + aaj;
   if ((d) > gr) { tw = n; break; }

}

Here ar, ai and aj are initialised as 0 and (br, bi, bj) corresponds to the point (x,y,z) to test.

If you set arTemp=ar; ar=ai;ai=aj;aj=arTemp;
after each iteration and play with the julia start values (and the 2.0 in the formula) you got some nice 2D julia mapping at the surface.

Oh, sorry for this mistake!
Did this formula a moment before posting a new program version and did not read the thread carefully enough... and could not find the thread at all, because i wanted to ask before.

So would it be ok to change the formula name to "FracmonkQuat"?
If Fracmok is reading this: just suggest a name you would like for it.

Trafassel, may you point me to where i can find the "Ides Formula", so i see if i can implement it.

Cool metal crystals Jesse, got to try the formula, I agree with Trafassel, looks like Fracmonk's formula?

It would by a privilege if you add some of my formulas in m3d (I would really love to see "Ides Formula" - or the 3d-julia Variant - in Mandelbulb 3D).

But this one looks like Fracmonk's idea: http://www.fractalforums.com/3d-fractal-generation/true-4d-m-extension-search-for-the-holy-grail(s)-goes-on/

I forgot to add a parameter in the formula file, you can add it with a simple text editor:
put ".DEoption = 4" (without the"") in a new line under the ".Version = 2" parameter and reload the formula.
That makes rendering a bit easier.

Yeah, was just looking at that formula in the new version 167, should be fun
