If you are using Mandelbulb3d then we would have to persuade Jesse (who wrote it) to add an option for not doing the box fold on the mandelbox. Or add a new transform type that is just an individual ball fold.
I'm not sure it could beat these awesome pictures though... but it might.
Interesting how the dodecahedrons have one double edge.

Cool, glad you like it guys.  grin

TGlad, I have made this in Mandelbulb 3D using in the first formula tab the IcosahedronIFS external formula Jesse attached in the 1.53 thread (http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?topic=3496.0) with the following settings: Scale 2.5, CScaleX  0.809016994374947, CScaleY 0, CScaleZ 0.309016994374947 (this yelding dodecahedronal shapes instead of icosahedral ones at default settings), no rotations, 2 iterations and the Repeat from here box ticked, in the second tab there is the built-in Amazing Box at Scale 1 and Min R 0.5 and that's it as far as the formula settings goes.

I am not sure I can try what you suggest but if so I'd appreciate some practical guidance, being so much more of an empirical guy tweaking parameters to see what it does rather than someone who understands the theory behind it all.

Anyway, with adequate tweaks of that IcosahedronIFS formula, I found out it is possible to get, in addition to the Dodecahedron, the Icosidodecahedron, Truncated Dodecahedron, Truncated Icosahedron and also I think the Rhombicosidodecahedron  and Truncated Icosidodecahedron as well as perhaps the Rhombic Triacontahedron and stellations.

Cheers.

wonderfully rich set of colours and shapes, five stars!
You say it is mandelbox + icosahedral folding? It would be interesting to try it with just the icosahedral folding and the ball-fold, and leave out the box fold of the mandelbox.
