Rectangular ambient occlusion (with directional elements)
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Created using Ultra Fractal. This demonstrates rectangular based ambient occlusion for using on Mandelboxes, Juliaboxes and any other roughly rectangular fractals. The basic occlusion is based on the maximum of the distances of a point from the centre of the cuboid in each direction (x/y/z) so that the greatest occlusion occurs at the centre. The method was suggested to me by Jos Leys. In this case a directional element was added and it is essentially the method used for the ambient levels in the original render of "New Rome". Here's the original "New Rome" which also includes diffuse and specular light from two sources: http://www.fractalforums.com/images-showcase-%28rate-my-fractal%29/new-rome-%28mandelbox%29/ Stats: Total Favorities: 0 View Who Favorited Filesize: 359.42kB Height: 480 Width: 640 Keywords: rectangular ambient occlusion mandelbox fractal digital algorithmic ultrafractal Posted by: David Makin April 11, 2010, 09:45:44 PM Rating: by 1 members.
