'Glass Complex' Book Cover Triptych | ||||||
Next Image | ||||||
Description: Mandelbulb 3D v1.9.1 and Photoshop A wide variety of escapetime and D-IFS formulae were used in the creation of this piece. I must thank Hal Tenny for kindly sharing his setup which allowed me to create the huge central 'Waystation'. Some of the sharper-eyed among you may be able to spot the location for my previous 'Tier' 3D fractal pieces! (Seen better on my websites) I was recently commissioned by author John Hindmarsh to produce new cover illustrations and graphics for his 'Glass Complex' trilogy of science fiction novels. The brief was quite detailed, and accurately described scenes from the books that the author felt would work best as cover illustrations. John had specified that he wanted a sense of connectedness and continuity across the three cover images. It was agreed that the best solution in this case would be to create the three images in the form of a 'triptych' - a single image incorporating all the required elements in one wide digital 'painting'. The three images could then be cropped out for use as the finished book covers. John and I both feel that this approach has been very successful, and has achieved the desired sense of the pictured events taking place within a consistent 'universe'.
