Description: this was really fun! and i'm quite satisfied with the result. the new volumetric lights gives us many new possibilities to design fractal scenes and i'm impressed by the fantastic quality of this effect (hope you have a fast machine ;-)).
as long as i am the only one sharing fract files (except buddhi), i won't share those "worked out" parameters, but some hints about things like that:

  • this is made without positional lights, but with a volumetric main light
  • before you experiment with volumetric intensities like 1, 10 or 100, be aware, that this one needed an intensity of 40 000, to get an adequate effect
  • make sure, to increase the intensity of the main light, and not the "post tuning" - the results are smoother and faster rendered
  • for this scene a quality setting of 2 for volumetric lights was quite enough. this setting makes the rendering time acceptable (about an hour for a six-core-amd at 1152 x 720)

have fun!

great render!, I've never had the patience to wait for a volumetric render to finish.

Ya'll never met Jimw1 at Rendo, his C4D volumetric lighting is the Best I've ever seen

as good as what our graphic artist did for some of the backgrounds in 3dPets:Koi-Koi - using 3D Studio Max

couldn't agree more. in real life i'm a 3d pro (architecture not arts), using ArchiCad, Nemetschek and Cinema 4d. even in c4d it's hard work to create volumetric lighting of that quality...

Awesome.
Best use of Buddhi's volumetric lighting that I've seen (as good as what our graphic artist did for some of the backgrounds in 3dPets:Koi-Koi - using 3D Studio Max).
