Caleidoscope | September 08, 2015, 09:54:43 AM That is a very good list! Can be recommended to anyone. For me it is quite some time ago that I've read all those books. I was about 17 when I started with Carl Jung (also German) and to even to begin to understand what he was talking about you had to have read al those books from the Mahabharata to the Egyptian book of the dead, Nietzsche, Kant, Hesse and dozens of other interesting books and writers. There has been a time that I had over 20.000 books and I was moving around quit a bit and that meant a lot of carrying with boxes, endless boxes . The last 10 years I have given most of my books away I now have just a few hundred left so no boxes anymore Since you came up with it last night I thought a lot about all those writers and their great books. I was very surprised that you mentioned Hesse, I'm afraid not many are interested in these great writers anymore. I find it interesting to look back and to notice how all these writers somehow had a part in shaping who I have become. They sure played a part in it. Have a wonderful day Holocene and thank you for a trip through 'memorylane' |
Holocene | September 08, 2015, 04:23:29 AM I like Narcissus and Goldmund too. I've read almost everything Hesse wrote. My favorite was probably the Glass Bead Game. Also a big fan of Guenther Grass and The Tin Drum. And as long as I'm on the subject of German Literature I'll throw in Thomas Mann's Doctor Faustus as another of my favorites. |
Caleidoscope | September 07, 2015, 10:36:09 PM Cheers Holocene, and Hesse is absolutely one of my most favorite writers it gives me a big smile that you refere to him! My most favorite book of his (if you can choose, I have them all) is Narcissus and Goldmund and I do know the Glass Bead Game, and I'm sure you are a player in the game Have a good night and thank you for you friendly reply! I still give you a beer |
Holocene | September 07, 2015, 10:09:41 PM Perhaps a variant of Hesse's Glass Bead Game? Thanks, as always, for the comments, Caleidoscope, as well as the stars! |
