Description: Cave of explored secrets…
First year of the MANDELBULB: http://MANDELWERK.deviantart.com/art/First-year-of-the-MANDELBULB-189357045

Today we celebrate two years with the Mandelbulb.
Actually it was four years since Twinbee posted the formula on fractalforums but it would take two more years before the first power 8 bulb was rendered.
Check out the thread and feel the thrill: http://www.fractalforums.com/3d-fractal-generation/true-3d-mandlebrot-type-fractal/msg4109/#msg4109

I did a render of this part of the meandelbulb because Daniel Whites "Cave of Lost Secrets"http://mandelbulbs.s3.amazonaws.com/new/full/q50/MysteryCave-b-med.jpg  was one of the images that got me back to the fractal world, this is a new version of that image made as a homage to Daniel and the rest of the people on fractalforums that did this remarkable discovery which led to the 3D fractals we see today.
Full story on Daniel Whites site: http://www.skytopia.com/project/fractal/mandelbulb.html

My image was rendered using Mandelbulb 3D, DOF in photoshop.
Also added the small full view of the mandelbulb in the bottom right corner, lit exactly as the big image, with one positional light, so you can see where on the mandelbulb planet we are…

5000 x 3000 pixel download... ONLY TODAY! wink : http://MANDELWERK.deviantart.com/art/Second-year-of-the-MANDELBULB-269472365

Happy Mandelbulb day!

"look of unenamelled pottery", exactly what I like so much about Daniels render.
He had a certain feel in his rendering engine, I hope he will release it someday... wink

Your "graphical eulogy" came out very well taurus, just love it!  A Beer Cup A Beer Cup A Beer Cup

fine remake! it was just this "cave" that finally hypnotized me. this look of unenamelled pottery, the dark gothic mood just blew my mind. It was about half a year after the 17th of november 2009 and i was still tweaking some quats... long ago indeed.
this image is a little time travel for me - thanks!  A Beer Cup
at this momet i'm struggling with some probs with my own graphical eulogy, but i'm confident to fix them tonight... when i look at the rest of the entries, i am sure, mine will be pretty different!

Thank you Louis, it is the least I can do.
Actually I think Daniels original is hard to beat and I was not after that but I just had to honor that early render which opened my eyes for the new worlds.

Thankyou for paying homage to the many genius's here
and in particular the Mandelbulb...
Your render not only depicts the amazing variety of detail and shape, but the new worlds offered in its algorithems
