Pauldelbrot | July 13, 2011, 08:37:54 AM Thanks! I've actually got two layers in there with different iterations. The spirals lose structure at their core if the iterations are low; if they're high the details elsewhere turn into unintelligible noise. There isn't a happy medium, either; in between the outside is noisy and the spirals lack detail. So I used one layer to modulate the brightness of the other and keep structure visible with both values. To actually get the colors, I mostly just made a greenish palette for one layer and a randomish one for the other, then rolled one of them around seeing how it interacted with the other via the multiply function until I got something that looked pleasing, followed by a bit of fine tuning to get rid of bits of colors that clashed. It's like sculpting: the art is finding the bits to remove, more than the bits to add. |
