Description: This is going to sound really weird but I wanted to try to make a set of 'minimalist fractals' - a set where every piece would look like a fine art painting.

The exploration is on-going, with this piece being one of the first. Basic gnarl with a twist and just a few iterations give it a really alien and 3D look.

Ultra Fractal 5 and loads of odd tweaking. cheesy

I compiled the minimalistic stuff to a Behance gallery a while back: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Minimalist-Fractals-(2012-)/6513675

@Kali:
That's a good question, one that I've been debating while creating a big series of these minimal thingys. The image is a detail from a gnarl algorithm, but it does not follow the general characteristics of "normal" fractals. Yet it does fall into the generated-using-a-mathematical-algorithm -category.

Be it fractal or not, that's a choice I leave for the viewer. ^.^

Looks nice, but how can you call this a fractal?  huh?

Nice work!

The minimalistic concept is really interesting ... especially when applied to fractals.
