Description: A homage to William S. Burroughs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_S._Burroughs and his brilliant book "Naked Lunch" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_Lunch , a book that has been a great inspiration to me all my life... "During the bienal Panics when the raw, pealed Dream Police storm the City, the Mugwamps take refuge in the deepest crevices of the wall sealing themselves in day cubicles and remain for weeks in biostasis. In those days of gray terror the Reptiles dart about faster and faster, scream past each other at supersonic speed, their flexible sculls flapping in black winds of insect agony." …also a homage to Gary Numan / Tubeway Army and the song "The Dream Police" inspired by Burroughs book. Listen to it while viewing my image!: Actually I think the whole album "Tubeway Army" suits this works atmosphere perfectly… I listened to it while creating this artwork. Guest | December 26, 2011, 08:37:09 PM I liked The Pleasure Principle but I was beginning to move into other areas by then. Talented bloke though! |
KRAFTWERK | December 26, 2011, 04:24:15 PM Numans first solo, the Pleasure priciple is also great... and the 4 or 5 following... |
Guest | December 26, 2011, 03:37:39 PM Absolutely! As soon as I first heard Are Friends Electric, I was absolutely gobsmacked and had to buy Replicas. After that, I bought the first album and some of the old singles (That's Too Bad, Blue Eyes etc.) It was via TA that I discovered Ultravox - one of my favourite bands. Although I became a hippie and got more into prog, psychedelia etc., these are bands I will always remember and still love listening to. |
KRAFTWERK | December 24, 2011, 02:23:45 PM Thank you Erisian! We seem to share the same history in music, glad to hear that. It was a new kind of music back then... |
Guest | December 23, 2011, 10:18:18 PM Nice work again. Tubeway army were the first band I ever took notice of and I loved that first album. |
KRAFTWERK | December 02, 2011, 04:03:09 PM "maestro... " No problem mauxuam, it is just that I wanted to know what you didn't like, and you gave me a very clear explanation of what you meant, I like that. So... cheers to the real maestro: mr Burroughs! |
mauxuam | December 02, 2011, 01:53:13 PM sorry for not being substantial an articulated in my critique from the start off course I did it with all the respect to a maestro like u I am just a beginner in the mandelbulb universe WB is a big inspiration for me too...and I actually admire his life even more than his art |
KRAFTWERK | December 02, 2011, 11:45:11 AM Now, that is a more substantial critique maux! And I can see what you mean, I usually have more settled backgrounds but this time I wanted to create a feeling of the scary, hallucinated, poisoned atmosphere from the book. But, as you say, we all have different taste. I Thank you for elaborating on what you felt! Nice to hear you like Burroughs! (What I meant about asking if you had read him was that his books are a bitt "too much" sometimes in some context) |
mauxuam | December 02, 2011, 11:24:14 AM I did I read the books and I listen to the poetry and i enjoyed the music collaborations with Bill Laswell too. I like the fractal elements in this one but for me there is too much emphasis in the background and the montage always matter of taste for example I never liked Gary Newman or Ultravox |
KRAFTWERK | December 02, 2011, 09:12:23 AM Thank you Tahyon, and Trafassel: You are probably right mauxuam... have you read Burroughs? * |
mauxuam | December 02, 2011, 08:36:56 AM this is a bit too much IMHO |
trafassel | December 01, 2011, 08:29:10 PM |
Tahyon | December 01, 2011, 05:32:51 PM Great montage Johan ! |
