Bismuth crystal | ||||||
Previous Image | Next Image | ||||||
Description: A bismuth crystal displaying beautiful fractal patterns in 3 dimensions. Such crystals are very rare in nature and not that spectacular. Most but of them, like this one, are synthetic and grown in labs. The colors are the result of surface oxydation. The fractal pattern is formed by growing straight and suddenly forming a right angles at random. They form, most of the times, spirals at many scales. DarkBeam | February 02, 2012, 12:57:44 PM this is really crazy!!!! fantastic |
FractalJam | October 29, 2011, 05:59:12 AM Are these from BeeblebroxZ on DA? |
reallybigname | October 28, 2011, 09:00:39 PM I should add that, I'm usually annoyed when people post pictures of rocks, when I spend hours rendering actual fractals. However, this one is really awesome. |
reallybigname | October 28, 2011, 08:58:11 PM Actually, taurus, every atom in the universe is "aware" of every other atom in the universe, at some level. However, this isn't necessary for emergent patterns in groups of atoms. All that is required are simple rules (like a fractal). |
Vega | October 28, 2011, 03:10:23 PM Wonderful! At first I haven't believed it is a real crystal. |
taurus | October 28, 2011, 11:37:20 AM stunning piece of fractal structure. i was allways interested in the secrets of chrystal accretion. especially a question even quantum physics can't answer: how does an atom (or molecule) "know" where to place, so the chrystal grows in its significant way some people assume, that an atom that adsorbs to a chrystal somehow must be aware of the condition of the whole chrystal. strange and funny vision |
