Description: I found that it is often a good idea to lower ambient light values and let the main light model the scene.  Also, depth of field does a lot to increase photorealism without "fogging up" the image.

Nice! Looks cozy, if one doesn't mind heights.

I've raised but never tried lowering the ambient occlusion before, thanks for the tip (some values are intuitively more fun to raise than lower). I usually set the gamma value to 0.8-0.9, sometimes with raised brightness, to get a more pleasant(~real) result in my images. And let's not forget gimp with filters/plugins - there's one called "national geographic" which I'm particularly fond of.
