Description: This face was directly inspired by the Multiple Reduction Copy Machine (MRCM) concept, presented by Peitgen, Jurgens, and Saupe in "Chaos and Fractals" (it's very similar to IFS). The MRCM concept allows for polygonal-based fractals, so I was able to create/render this in a standard commercial 3d package. The final image represents more than 19.4 billion polygons. The fractal face is defined by 30 affine transforms, all painstakingly hand-placed. The render was done in several passes, ranging in time from 3 minutes to 12 hours.

billtavis | May 19, 2014, 12:34:36 AM thanks for the compliments! cKleinhuis, the faces all have at least some amount of non-uniform scale and some are also mirrored across an axis, this is probably where the variation you are seeing is coming from. |
cKleinhuis | May 18, 2014, 10:30:00 PM the faces look different each, how come? |
