Description: Sorry folks - I've had so much trouble getting this animation out that I have had to send in a cobbled together, edited version for submission. Firstly, after encoding it into a Hi-Q AVCHD for over 3 hours, I discovered it had refused to process the audio. Not only that but it also put out a two minute blank section around the 8 minute mark - which I removed - BUT no matter what segment ended around the 8 minutes mark, the following one was always blank - then it resumed the picture to the end of the animation. This has me completely baffled....So I ended up re-encoding at differing quality - and removing the blanks SEVEN times. I've removed the offending parts, stuck the thing together in sections and finally I have a much crippled entry. I have no idea what caused this. It is the first time that such events have occurred. Now - there does not seem to be a 'new topic' button in the film section. Beyond this, I have synchronized much of the soundtrack and visuals and tried to tell something of a quick story - showing a small sample of the infinite possibilities. See credits at end for items used etc. THANKS Stats: Total Favorities: 0 View Who Favorited Filesize: 65.46kB Height: 450 Width: 800 Discussion Topic: View Topic Keywords: 2012 Fractal Forums competition entry: Posted by: kameelian May 29, 2012, 01:42:41 AM Rating: by 9 members. Pauldelbrot | June 08, 2012, 10:42:11 AM I've had good results this year with the X264 H.264 encoder and Virtualdub to generate an .avi from individual frames. If Hi-Q AVCHD is causing you grief you might want to consider these as an alternative. If you can generate your individual frames as numbered .pngs and soundtrack as an .mp3 file you can use those tools. A 7-to-8-minute 720p HD video takes ~30 minutes to encode with them (depending on your CPU speed) AND if there are problems with audio you can replace the soundtrack in seconds (by using the previous version .avi as the input instead of the .pngs, and setting video to direct stream copy in Virtualdub, while audio is set to the replacement .mp3). Note: Mandelbulber and Ultrafractal (and the custom software I'm using for a lot of stuff) can output animations as numbered .pngs. You will need a load of disk space: 8 minutes worth of 720p 24fps losslessly-compressed video will chew up multiple gigabytes any way you slice it. In the form of numbered pngs about 1GB per minute of video is typical at that framerate and resolution. I have a few TB of disk space kicking around so I have no problem with this (and even with keeping the lossless source data around indefinitely after encoding), but I realize that it could be an issue for others. Of course if your video is not just a single animation rendered with one program you'll need an editing tool also capable of numbered-png output. I'm not sure if common off-the-shelf ones tend to do that (though I'd be surprised if they didn't); the ~1000 line Lisp program I wrote to put together Brief History and Change from shorter segments and still slides, obviously, does. |
