4k Mandelbrot Musings 00170Lightyears awaymagnet_mandel_deepzoom
Lightyears away
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: My last entry for the deep mandelbrot section.

This image is based on the song "Lightyears away" by Joe Satriani:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/wBkQBIhiELI&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/v/wBkQBIhiELI&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

The technique I used to create this morph is described here:
http://www.fractalforums.com/mandelbrot-and-julia-set/shortcuts-in-juliasets/
It builds up density very quickly and looks pretty cool.I tried using the newton raphson zooming but it simply doesn't work, it zooms in too much. Rendereing took one hour and 37 minutes.

Yes, the newton raphson from claude always gives the minibrot location.
What I did in KF was simply to convert it to 2^x, then x=3/4, and then back.
If you know which zoom size your morphing will get, you may let it find the minibrot instead, and then change the zoom depth value manually.
But I guess it is very hard to know the morphing depth in advance when using shortcuts...

It is not a problem but I will certainly try that. Thanks

Excellent. And you are rendering them on a 32-bit machine aren't you?

Thank you. Yes, the server case I got a while back is collecting dust rather than getting cleaned. I recently even had to clean my 32bit machine.
But I am planning to make a 16k+ render of it once it has been cleaned which will probably be done after my school exams.

Btw now that you are here. When zooming for this image I found out that the newton raphson method does not work in combination with the technique I used. I guess this has to do with that the shortcuts shorten the overal zoom depth of juliasets. Every time I tried I zoomed all the way to the minibrot. (This does prove that the overal zoom depth for minibrots is decreased.)
