Thanks Don.  These are cool, though I can't get some of them to converge into 3D.  The smaller images seem to work better for me.  Looking forward to the animation.

Though I have no problem crossing my eyes, and with a little effort I can independently cross each one separately (since I can also move each one separately with a bit more effort), I have never been able to accurately focus so that I see only one object the way others do.  Not sure if it has to do with my screen resolution, distance from the screen, just my eyes not focusing correctly, or a combination of factors.

Which is why I have never found much interest in seeing almost identical images side by side.

amateur holography is quite a hot field these days (even though the patent system kinda stifles it in america), you can find out quite a lot about it online. a good starting point is http://users.rcn.com/drlaser/ (edit: argh, i see the links on that page are now quite 404 - i just found http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7759505/ which looks like it has the basics)

still, unfortunately you can't put them on the internet for us to see... much unlike a stereo animation

As far as I know, no one else has tried to do this kind of volumetric raytracing.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean volumetric raytracing was new (VTK has it built in as a standard visualization tool), and yes stereo images have been around forever.

I do believe the particular effect I'm trying to achieve (and almost have working) is new.

Though I still am unable to "combine" the stereo view into a single object, I liked the image that was generated.  It would be great to see this one as a 3-D animation.
