This is a 3D version of  "Mandelbrot on real numbers". You may want to take a look at one of the first posts I made here, when I started to work with fractal formulas and so on:

After squaring x,y,z values separately and adding the constant, the bailout test goes on abs(x+y-z) in this particular case. abs(x+y+z) or abs(x-y-z) can be used also.

I don't have a DE system for this, so I wrote a very rudimentary rendering script with constant raymarching. It includes distance fog and a little bit of translucency.
I did some enhancements later with Photoshop.

I know the image is quite flat, but I kinda liked the result anyway.
