Love the historic style of the map. Very neat.

Thanks for the great feedback guys! I am going to be launching the Kickstarter on Monday, April 18 - get in there early to save money on your poster! I will post a link here as soon as it goes live. In the mean time, here are some cool gifs for you to enjoy. To give the map a more human feel, I hired an illustrator to do some hand-drawn depictions of the commonly named areas of the set.

So are the elephant and the seahorse animated on the actual poster using smart ink technology? If not, that's false advertising! I kid, I kid! laugh

This is awesome and I plan on backing ASAP!

Very interesting. sepia antique incunabulum style is perfect for mandelbrot explorers.  how long do you take to make it??!? it seems already finished.

To celebrat that enginuity, here is a cool website " bibliodyssey " with strange old book illustrations:
https://www.google.fr/search?q=bibliodyssey&num=100&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiXsPzjhZDMAhXFVhoKHS4jD-cQ_AUIBygB&biw=1195&bih=759

and here are medieval maps:

haha, very funny... but on a more somber note it seems like it may not be the 8-ink giclee I was promising either sad The test prints I received were fabulous, but unfortunately on subsequent orders the colors kept coming out wrong and the print shop seemed unable/unwilling to correct it. Now I'm back on the search of finding a print house. So long story short, this only affects the extra-large posters, and whatever inks wind up being used I will still make sure that the prints are nothing less than top quality.

Thank you!! It took me about a year and a half to finish it, which was way longer than I was originally intending but I didn't want to cut any corners - my attitude was always, "it takes as long as it takes." And thank you for the links! That BibliOdyssey book looks very interesting

The Kickstarter is live! grin This forum is the very first place I'm posting the link, because you are all awesome! There is 30 days from today to get your poster as a reward for pledging. Enjoy and thank you!

If you'd like to help it succeed, please share it with your friends! Thanks!

Pledged $20 on the kickstarter, looks like I'm the first one in. Since kickstarter is an all-or-nothing approach, is there a chance that it will be available for purchase in some other form if you're unable to raise the required $2,800 in 30 days?

That's awesome! Thanks! Glad you could be the first  cheesy

If the project does not meet the goal, like you said it's all-or-nothing, so no one that pledged will get their poster and I will have to find another way to raise that money... which could take who knows how long... so this is a good reason to share it around and encourage others to pledge. But no matter what, even if it means taking out a loan, I am determined to make this thing happen!

Backed. One 36x24 signed and numbered poster. Thanks...
Smiling Mandelbrot

EDIT: Added to KickTraq database! afro

EDIT2: $660 in less than two hours. You should have no problem reaching your goal. Looks like I'm #7 of 50 on the 36x24 posters... afro

EDIT3: My credit card expires 05/2016. Bank has not issued me a new one yet. It should be okay provided the charge goes through before the end of the May? Sceptical

Thanks! Yeah it seems to be off to a great start!  surfing

And I didn't even know about posting it to KickTraq, so that's awesome too, thanks for sharing it!  A Beer Cup

As far as your credit card goes, the way I understand it, Kickstarter collects the funds in the week after the campaign ends, so that would be after May 18... I'm sure you can edit your payment info at that time if you need to

Updated my pledge to the large version, since I was considering it already and this is taking off way faster than expected. I tend to assume that this forum is pretty quiet since there are only ever ten or so posts a day, really nice to see that something as relatively niche as this can raise so much in just a few hours.

I don't think we have to worry about this project not making it. Currently it's trending at 1186% afro
