This might be a digital painting, but I'm pretty sure it is based on some particular position and parameters in the Julia set, or possibly Mandelbrot?

Could you guys help me find out how to recreate this fractal pattern? Like what parameters to input into a fractal software to be able to export a 2D picture similar to the attached one.

I have a basic grasp of what fractals are and the math, but I'm thinking more about stuff you will learn through experience, like, what fractal does this look like? What coloring conditions do you set to get "tiger stripes" in the escape areas?

yes, its the mandelbrot set.
open the attached kfr file in kalles fraktaler http://www.chillheimer.de/kallesfraktaler/

the key elements are thev 5point symetry(find the location by zooming out of my preset).
and in the colours dialog you make black bands(I do this by "merge colours" and 2 step bands, mixing with black) and a very low colour division (<1), they become more striped, if you uncheck "smooth colour transitions"
the rest is trying out.. wink
have fun!


(for the blue valleys you would need a tool that makes use of more than one layer like ultra fractal I think)

I don't think it's quite right.  The first post shows some 3-way branches on the spiral spokes, which aren't there in your location.

I had a go, got the 3-way branches but the 5-fold spirals are way too curly, and the scaling factor between the 3-way branches along each spoke is too high (the 3-fold branches need to be further apart).

but actually it isn't wink I'm (pretty) sure I'm human.
it just takes a loooot of practise and you need to be familiar with the paths you have to choose to reach certain features.
but you are right, it's quite impossible to reach the exact location - but approximation works.. do some zooms everyday for a year and you'll be able to do this.
of course this is extremly useful knowledge in everyday life and worth the effort.... not. wink

Btw, look at the edges of the image. Could it be a part of a mandelbar because some parts are compressed.
