Youtube now supporting native resolution videos up to 4096p (4096×3072), but what kind
of monitor would show this?

I am sure they will bog down any CPU, unless you have hardware decoding support in your GPU wink

Here's youtube's 4K showreel <a href="http://www.youtube.com/p/5BF9E09ECEC8F88F&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/p/5BF9E09ECEC8F88F&rel=1</a>
You need to be on the site, 4K doesn't play in embedded players.

Considering the lack of material at this resolution, the lack of ability to play video at this size, and how crapily youtube encoded my recent 720p fractal video, I'd say this is just a publicity stunt.

I can see the difference between 1080p and 4k on my monitor. The larger the resolution, the higher the bitrate youtube allows. It still doesn't make sense to have 4k this way. A higher bitrate for 1080p would be much better. There's no reason to have higher and higher resolutions if the bitrate sucks. (I mean, for this resolution it does, overall it's pretty awesome that this is offered as a free service.)
