I see this image everyday, it's a Pink Floyd poster I have in my bathroom.

For the first time today I noticed that there is a similarity with these kind of shapes often found on the middle of negative Mandelbox edges:

Do you think there is somehow a link between the way the Mandelbox is calculated (the so called foldings which are more or less symmetries), and the reflections in these 2 spheres ?

nice comparison, whereas the folding on the mirrored spheres is to the outside and
not to the inside like in the mandbox?
i am not the great analyzer, just testified if the little program smallpt, a Path Tracer
by Kevin Beason, can do it right... rendered overnight  undecided
(interstellar overdrive is cool, did not knew this poster)

Edit:
the comparison of number foldings and light path foldings is very funny, so is an image
with many mirrored objects also a fractal?

Yes, very nice video.
And if you calculate only the direct mirroring you just have to calculate one iterated ray for each pixel,
not about 5000 like in the image i posted  wink
