fantastic, thank you for what you have done here, at first sight it looked like a filling method, but its nicely eroded mandelbrot, fantastic base for nice mountain like flight ins wink

very cool!  i wonder for points in the set if you could make them not be a surface at all, so no light would reflect, like a black hole or something  afro

Yes it is the result of the formula posted here. (Using the attachement is easier than copy pasting  grin)
It should be possible to give another color to the interior but I'm having trouble with the way MB3D handles object trap value. The value seems clamped. I used the logarithm of the height for coloring which is not the best one can do. Any idea? (tried smooth iteration count... not very good results)
