Fractalforums.com Spring 2011 Fractal Art Contest fort the 4th time in history the fractalforums.com Fractal Art Spring Contest is held in Memorial of Benoit B. Mandelbrot (20 November 1924 – 14 October 2010). Deadline 1st of May 2011 Voting starts at 1st of May 2011 and lasts until 1st June 2011 Begin: Now! Every contestant is allowed to post 3 Entries in each section Voting will be disabled in the gallery sections The contest will be dedicated to "the man of the brot" - Dr. Benoit Mandelbrot (20 November 1924 – 14 October 2010) In the first year the contest had around 42 contributors, in the second year the Contest grew to 58 contributors, last years contest went through the roof concerning contributors there where all in all 130 entries for last years contest. This year we are following the ideas to make the voting more balanced, so voting is disabled in the gallery until deadline. and features the following sections: - Movie - any video you like containing any type of fractal content, post processing and layering is allowed Upload into the Gallery here: http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=53- 2d - here is the restriction that it has to be created with a single "render" operation in a fractal program, signing is ok http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=54- 3d/composition - here everything is allowed, but it has to contain something "fractalish" http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=55Prizes: due to the lack of a sponsor i will provide the winners in each section with a cup printed the winning image on it, as every year start now, and have fun! regards Fractalforums.com Admin Team start producing ! the Fractalforums.com Admin Team |

I don't see any reason why older works should be disallowed. Making something special for the contest is nice, but I doubt it's an absolute requirement. Only Christian knows for sure. I'm sure he'll speak up if it's a problem. |

Hi Christian,
I had to use "bulk upload", because normal upload doesn't work as the category is not appearing in the list.
Also cannot edit the post, because of the same reason.

The movie forum doesn't seem to allow posts of video links. The only options are image upload and bulk image upload. Neither of which seems to allow posting a Vimeo or YouTube link. Hope this can be rectified soon...

Thanks The category is there, just hard to see I guess. http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=52The "add a picture" link worked fine for me. Not sure if that's due to being a moderator - have to get Christian to check permissions... The movie forum doesn't seem to allow posts of video links. This has always been handled by posting a still from the movie in the gallery, and linking to the video in the description. The video will play from there as it does in the regular forum posts. I can see the categories there, but they don't appear in the editor, not automatically and neither when I search for them in the dropdown list... |

I never tried it that way, so was unaware it didn't work! If you enter the category you wish to post in, then scroll to the bottom and use the add image link in there, it will default to that category. That's just a work around, obviously. But it will get you started until this can be fixed  Thanks for pointing it out. |

Oh sorry to bother you but perhaps I can't express myself correctly, so you aren't getting it... I already tried clicking on "add picture", but it doesn't work any way because it doesn't select automatically the correct category in the message editor, and when I search for them, they aren't there! Just a category that says "Competitions", but the subcategories are missing... perhaps you as an administrator don't have this problem, and it's a matter of privileges.

Permissions appear to be set correctly, and you do have an image in there already (it appears to be correctly categorized, it is a 2D image, right?) - how did that image get posted if you can't access the correct area? You are right. I am not understanding the problem. |

To make it clearer, I'll show you the screenshots The first is what I get when I click on "add picture" from the 2d section of the competition gallery... the category is not automatically chosen, so I can't just post that way. The second image is when I look for the category in the dropdown list, the subcategories are missing. Understood?  |

Same here. I tried it after reading this post and only Bulk Adding pictures shows the correct category. Tried it in the 3D section, though, so it seems to be an issue in both categories

OK - I made a test member account to confirm this. I have no idea why it is acting as it is, but I have confirmed what was being said here (not that I doubted it, but I still had to confirm it!). If Christian doesn't show up and deal with it shortly, I'll risk breaking the entire gallery and see if I can't play around with the permissions or whatever else may be causing this! But the permissions all looked OK when I checked them earlier (but sometimes these things set permissions in more than one place). Meanwhile, just bulk add, or wait for it to be fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for reporting it  |
