What about layers? I also understand that layering shouldn't be allowed based on what Christian said...
I think this must be clarified now because there's already an image with multiple layers posted...

ok, i try to explain:

2d: just plain layering techniques of 2d formulas, the mandelbrot is a 2d representation of the complex map, the 2d representation of a mandelbulb could be xy,yz or xy slices layered wink

3d/composition: simply anything that has self-repeating/fractal or just a broken dimension property, any styles are allowed, 3d, massive 2d photoshop self-drawn compositions, in a slight manner also photographs could be used in this section

and for video: simply anything that has self-repeating/fractal or just a broken dimension property, any styles are allowed meaning composition tools and post processing tools for tracking of pixels or, adding sound syncronisation, it must not be a single rendering of a fractal program, it should be a well syncronized sound fractal video cheesy

Is it okay if we make refinements or changes and update images before the voting period begins?

I made a banner out of this, but here's the Original, in all it's Bigness:

And while you're reading this - there have been some members uploading more than 3 entries to any one section of the gallery for the contest!

I wrote one a PM, - but hope the rest will see this and either move the ones they want removed, if editing allows that, or contact me, Christian, or any of the admin staff you feel like, and ask us help before some sort of action needs must be taken...

@all members of the southern hemisphere, you are absolutely right, and the naming of the contest makes no sense cheesy, how could we name it ? 1st quarter contest ? but then we would discourage chinese oder jewish or arabic people wink difficult problem ... perhaps annual fractal contest would do it ... huh?

@sock, i will use that as ad-banner, but one suggestion:
the image is far to high, perhaps you could make it that both texts are in the middle, so that no extra height is needed, and mirrored "fractalforums.com ... " isnt readable anyways...
i am preparing the script right now, i will make a 50:50 display of the ad image

i was opening GIMP right now to create a little banner, but now i use your image wink

I made a banner one and uploaded it to the rotation:

http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=6644

I just stretched it out and shrunk it to the 110 pixels which I still say is too short for a Proper Banner  sticking out tongue

Yeah - It could use some work, I just slapped that together with text on 3 planes.  It's easily modified, but the mirroring was timed so it was only backward when the deadline text was showing, and only forward when it wasn't - so they alternate.

The timing is a bit weird, but it looks different on different browsers, like all animated gif files.

As for renaming it - why not Fractal Forums Annual Contest.  We don't have many, and unless we plan on increasing the number of contests per year, we may as well call it that.

They're too big for attachments  (256k limit)

Here's the url's you can hotlink from these if you want:

http://www.sockrateaze.com/stuff/banner2011big.gif
http://www.sockrateaze.com/stuff/banner2011.gif

So can anyone else who wants to promote the contest!

The small one is 346 kb, not too big for signatures in some forums  afro

I'll change the wording to Annual Contest, and re-render.  Maybe work on the animation a bit so it is beter in the banner aspect ratio...

we forgot this year to limit the video size, so, there is no limit ... but more than 10 minutes seems to be overlong....
