That would have been nice to have such a friendly reminder one month ago before the posting deadline, because I did not use the 3 available slots in each category. Maybe I missed it smiley
As far as voting is concerned, I think I rated them all.

A suggestion for next one : have only 2 options : 1-I like it, 2-I don't like it.
Why ? Because for example if you like an image without thinking it's exceptionnal, for the moment you would rate it, say, 4 stars. But as there have been already some votes, the image is currently rated, say, 3 stars, so the voter who would like to improve the rating will vote for 5 stars.

Same the other way round : imagine one would normally vote 3 stars for a picture. If the picture is already rated 5 stars and one wants to decrease this, he will vote only 1 star, even if that does not represent his real opinion.

Yes, sorry about the lack of a posting deadline announcement!

We'll do much better next year.  Trying to use the forum's rating system has it's flaws.

As does any method left to a public vote.  I would not think a pure "up or down" vote would be any better than having a middle ground - or even a 5 "star" system.

Ideally, I would like to see some other system in place.

To avoid the situation you mention, about "if you like an image without thinking it's exceptional, for the moment you would rate it, say, 4 stars. But as there have been already some votes, the image is currently rated, say, 3 stars, so the voter who would like to improve the rating will vote for 5 stars. Same the other way round : imagine one would normally vote 3 stars for a picture. If the picture is already rated 5 stars and one wants to decrease this, he will vote only 1 star, even if that does not represent his real opinion."  I would suggest simply hiding the ratings from public view  (if the forum software can be convinced to do that!).

But most likely, it will be something entirely different...

Very good idea.

one year is far in future, and i didnt want to spam in peoples mail account to send another
voting end message, but you are right a reminder post would have done some good ...

for the gallery, lets see what happens next year, i hope we can get a real sponsor for real prices in our litte nutshell ( boat )
the gallery is deveoping further, and a little hack to remove current rating view makes sense

cheers

I second the idea of simply hiding the scores during the voting period (and also disabling voting during the submission period).

It might also be useful if a) an item a user already voted for has their vote pre-selected in the radio buttons if they re-load that page and b) voting again for the same item changes their vote from the old to the new value rather than simply producing an error message. Obviously if voting is disabled for a gallery changing a pre-existing vote should also not work at that point.
