I have been unable, at this time, to get the downloadable application functioning on my system.  I am currently running the Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition Runtime Environment Version 5.0 (update  1.5.0.10).

I did notice that one of the "Tutorial & Background" links at the bottom of the above web page was to William McWorter's "Fractint L-Systems Tutorial" at the FractInt's site on the Spanky server:

Well, it is now working quite fine, and it is really quite fast in the way it responds.  I ended up having to get in touch with one of the authors to work out what was causing the problem.  Apparently the JRE and the J3D API both have to be at compatible version levels before the program works correctly.  And my J3D was at an older level.
