Albrecht says, "My apologies to all participating users that I had to delete my Natural Music topic because of the destructive and unqualified actions of an individual -- in spite of my request to desist.  When I asked the manager to assist in order to avoid deleting the topic he blocked my account instead so I cannot place this statement myself."

One user posting a different opinion is no reason he had to delete the whole thread.

There's always 2 sides to a story.
Since 2013 Albrecht has created (and deleted) 4 accounts to get feedback on his fractal music.
Whenever a user posted anything that was not positive praise (without being insulting, mostly it was constructive criticism, we made that sure each time) he first asked the user to stop posting in his threads. Which is of course as legit as the user denying that request.
Then he asked the moderators to delete posts he disliked but this didn't happen, as the posts where within our guidelines.
He then deleted his account or the whole thread, which also deleted long texts of other users involved.

This is not fair to other users who took their time to answer him and give tips how to make it even better.
Tips that would help others as well.

And it is not how this forum (even the whole internet) works in general.
When you display your work/art here, you have to take what comes as feedback - as long as the language isn't vulgar or explicit.
This is not your personal promotion forum and it's not the moderators job to filter out what you personally don't like (even in "your" thread)

As a consequence of this ongoing nuisance the moderators have deceided that users can't delete the threads they started anymore.

so, Albrecht, in the act of trying to deny freedom of speech to others you have managed to deny us all the freedom to delete a thread, gee, thanks a lot (NOT) you have also denied yourself the freedom to interact with this forum in an open and mature way, too bad, because I liked what you were doing with music.

@chilli I do understand your position and agree with your decision as mods. I'll try to behave myself  wink

Fear not - if ever any member wants one of their posts deleted, just ask a mod and we'll do with no problem.

It's just that no member should be able to delete other members' posts.  Deleting the first post in a thread kills the whole thread, even if others have posted.

If a member really wants, we can delete all their posts in a thread except the first, which they can then edit however they like.  But the posts of others will remain!

Seems the fairest solution to me - but we are open to better ideas.  Feel free to discuss here or elsewhere in the forum.

ok so if I have a thread that goes way off topic or degenerates into nonsense, with your help, we can deal with it, trimming the fat, as it were.

That has always been the case!  While we will never delete posts that don't break rules, or are seen as not wanted by the member who started a topic but remain civil and rule-abiding, we will split topics into two if they go totally off subject.

Directly insulting another member, or their works, is a tricky thing to judge as it is often a perceived insult when one was not intended.  There is a fine line between insulting and honestly expressing an opinion.

Veering off topic is a thing that happens in real world conversations all the time.  So if one of your topics starts to do that, we assume everybody is OK with that unless we get a complaint - which is usually dealt with by requesting people stay on topic.  If, after that, it continues to go off topic we can split it into two threads.  Unless there is good reason to split it without even making the request first!

We are committed to allowing freedom of speech, but that does not include vulgarity, profanity, or insulting other members directly.  It does include expressing a negative opinion and a little bit of off-topic-but-still-related comments.

But we don't just delete people's posts if they don't violate any rules or just because the original poster doesn't like them.

EDIT - This thread proves that there is an exception to every rule!!

Perhaps we should consider moving it to the "Discuss Fractal Forums" section and re-name it to something a bit more relevant   cop cop cop

Admittedly, I am guilty of such activity once, re:spline path occlusion, but I like to think that I have redeemed myself by actually getting it to work and posting the results, I didn't mention anyone's Mother though wink
Keep up the good work  A Beer Cup

yep, multifrac, fractalist, XY, paetta

I personally don't have a problem with him joining again. after all, what he did was interesting. and his last attempt of fractal music seemed promising, even to my spoiled ears. but he didn't give me the chance to tell him, because he deleted the thread while I was writing that I offer to help him out by using state of the art equipment instead of 90s general midi sounds that scar his idea and make it inaccesible to modern ears.

so albrecht, I'm pretty sure you're reading this:
I can only speak for myself, but feel free to come back in 30 days and take this 5th(?) and very last chance - as long as you accept the way we handle this and how this place works.
play by the rules or play somewhere else!
everything that had to be said has been said in this thread.

please have open ears to that.
just like you expect us to have with your music.
