I don't have a problem with it, but is it a fact that a moderator needs to give a first replie on a new topic?

At some forums it is, on others not...thanks smiley

Not at all.  If there is an access restriction preventing you doing this let me know.

More topics = more discussion = better forum.  Try not to post duplicates though!  smiley

That sounds like a verry unusual restriction
Which forums ask that of there users?

It is pretty unusual indeed, I don't know what kind of forum it was, but the reason for that was to prevent false tips and recommendations being told.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have seen this before in a few of groups, and I believe it originated from something that was done a long time ago in some Usenet groups.

There was even one group that I was a moderator for on UseNet (I think it was either news.answers or news.newusers.questions) where even the replies where not allowed by anybody unless they were approved or they were made by a moderator.

There are restrictions like that in many computer troubleshooting forums, to try to keep people from going off half-cocked and giving bad advice that could do more harm than good. Here, as in most places, whoever knows what they are talking about can offer their two small coins' worth.
