Beats me too (Maybe no one knows what the original mandelbulb is anymore ), but I hope we will se a couple of pure mandelbulb images on thursday. (Was going to do my contribution with mandelbulber to honor Buddhi as well, so I gave it a couple of hours this weekend, what a competent program, and I feel totally lost in it... We will see, at least I did a MB3D image if that idea fails...) Glad you are in Taurus!

the first things for my "submission" were done yesterday and i can tell you, it will NOT be a pure mandelbulb image... . my shedules are tight till thursday, so i hope that i can bring it to the stage i want. ... i don't envy you! i started with version 0.96 and a fractional amount of functionality. my skills grew with the development of the program. starting with the present complexity of mandelbulber must be much harder. looking forward to thursday...

Well doesn't have to be pure, and why not give it a week, the 17th is not the exact day of the "birth" ...it was when Twinbee posted the formula... We say this thursday until next thursday, and maybe more members will have time to do something? If we link to this thread on our submissions the 17th more members will be aware of this "event". Yes, I now understand how hard it must be to be new to MB3D too, I also learned from the time before all new features, easier to keep up then Thursday it is!

There's something brewing here, but it is not pure mandelbulb. There is a pure mandelbulb part in it so to me that's enough... I'll post it thursday and see if it passes the judge and jury

Don't have much time, so here's my "most classic" though it's slightly different in that it's the degree 4 and of course the colouring/lighting is a little less sophisticated than what we're maybe used to now The original is linked on the "official" Mandelbulb pages but thought it would do for the anniversary anyway ! Here's the original "full-view" - you may need to click once, then again to see it at full-size - or just download it http://makinmagic.deviantart.com/art/Asteroid-National-Park-139905412And here's a zoom, just rendered, at 8000*8000 and downsized to 4000*4000 - again to see full size you may need to click twice or download.... http://makinmagic.deviantart.com/art/Asteroid-National-Park-zoom-269286311The main difference between the original render and the zoom is the time taken to render them as this system is a little faster than my old one - the original render took 10 hours on a core2duo but the zoom took just 55 minutes though granted that's down to the fact that since it's a single layer I was able to render it within UF at 8000*8000 (rather than using disk-render like the original) probably even more than the extra CPU speed (12 cores instead of 2).

OK, glad to see you like the idea fellow fractalforumers! Any contributions are welcome MAdman! Lovely render bib... a bit curious about it... asked you about it in the gallery... And David, that image is a true classic! Remember it very well! And I am thinking about upgrading my old Powermac G5 and buy a Pro... Should be updated soon by Apple I hope... Very expensive equipment though... is it worth it? The mandelbulb storm is coming tomorrow!

Thank you Kraftwerk, I have answered in the gallery But if I had to chose only one from my collection, that would this one I did with UF and Dave's formula. The anecdote is that I sold a print in small format but high quality material (dibond+plexiglas) during my first exhibit, and since then, I lost the original params and jpg because of a disk crash...

And David, that image is a true classic! Remember it very well! And I am thinking about upgrading my old Powermac G5 and buy a Pro... Should be updated soon by Apple I hope... Very expensive equipment though... is it worth it? Thanks..as to a Mac Pro, I say f*ck yes if you're using software that uses multi-threading - see: http://www.shadoworld.co.uk/UF5/Benchmark/Benchmark%20results.htmhttp://www.shadoworld.co.uk/UF5/Benchmark/Benchmark2.htmThose timings will be (relatively) across the board with respect to full multi-threaded fractal software - also the top timings (currently) are on a system that's as provided by Apple and with just 8GB RAM, you can always get something even better for a similar price from a good 3rd party Apple registered supplier (e.g. here I think there's a good one in Chester). Also with the next generation of Pro (if you're prepared to wait) I'd guess the base model with say only 4 cores will be as fast as this 6 core Of course by then 8-core may be a choice (or even dual 8-core) Edit: For all those thinking "yeh, but Mac's are always too expensive" - when I priced (and bought) this MacPro an equivalent Windows system from Dell was around £500 dearer.
