Fractal Forums is an online community in which participants share information on a wide range of fractal related topics.  Like any other community, we have a core set of principles that must be followed by all Members.  The community depends on each member helping to keep Fractal Forums a safe, fun, and positive place for everyone.

Good Issues:
  • Share what you know.  Chances are, someone could benefit from your knowledge, opinions, or personal experiences.  Sharing what you know is one of many ways you can make a positive contribution to the community.
  • Be courteous.  Remember, we are a diverse community of people with diverse opinions.  Everyone wants to be treated with respect, and showing respect to others makes the community better for all members.
  • Be a good citizen.  When you see a great question or answer, get it involved and let them know.  If you see abuse, report it.  We are committed to doing our best to stop abuse within Fractal Forums, and, with your help, we can make a difference.
  • Cite your sources.  We encourage members to use online resources in answering questions.  Just be sure to cite your sources and give credit where it is due.
  • Ask/Reply clearly.  Keep your questions/answers succinct, but be descriptive enough to help people understand what you are asking/replying.  Correct spelling and grammar help people find your questions/answers, and you will get better responses when others can clearly make out what you are saying.
  • Categorize correctly.  Categorize your Topic correctly.  Placing your topic in the right Board ensures that it is seen by people who can give you better information and more accurate responses.
  • English, Please.  Fractal Forums is available in many countries and languages, but to keep it more maintainable for a wider group of individuals, please use only the English language.  If English is not your native tongue, then it might help to state this within your posting, so that others will show more lenience with possible spelling and grammar errors.
  • etc...

Members who have violated the community guidelines are at risk for review and possible termination of their Fractal Forums account without warning.  Anyone can report abuse, but members can earn good reputations by helping us detect and remove abuse more quickly, and possibly become future Moderators when the need arises.  (False reports lead to bad reputations.)

Bad Issues:
  • Venting, ranting or using hate speech.  Fractal Forums is not a soapbox to vent personal frustrations or rant about issues.  We are a community of people with diverse beliefs, opinions, and backgrounds, so please be respectful and keep hateful and incendiary comments off Fractal Forums.
  • Chatting.  Fractal Forums is a community for sharing information, not a personal chat room.  If a post is nothing more than some non-fractal related chit-chat, it either does not belong here, or in the single Board available for such purposes.
  • Being mean or Obscene.  Because young kids may participate in Fractal Forums, sexually explicit and vulgar language and images are not allowed on the site.  Also not allowed are belligerence, insults, slurs and generally objectionable speech.  If you would not say it in public, do not post it on Fractal Forums.  (This includes Profile Information, such as UserName, DisplayName, Signature, WebSite, PersonalText, Picture, etc...)
  • Exploiting the community.  Fractal Forums is a place to gain knowledge, not customers, page views, or dates.  If you have years of experience in something, have a special hobby, own your own business, or if you are a knowledge partner, it's OK to accompany a good, on-topic response with a link to your website, blog, or email to offer more information.  However, it is not OK to post links that are unrelated to the topic or are clearly meant only to solicit others for personal and financial gain.  Also prohibited are solicitations like "Will you add me as a contact?" or propositioning people.  (This includes Profile Information, such as Signature, WebSite, PersonalText, Picture, etc...)
  • Cheating.  Our Contests, Ratings, Polls and the like are meant to reward the community members for sharing information, images and videos, so creating multiple accounts or posting content for the sole purpose of increasing "points" or soliciting others for "points" is not permitted (including outside of the Fractal Forums).  Posting filler responses to a question in an effort to be first to answer, or copying and pasting other members' responses, are also forms of cheating.
  • Violating the Law.  Members of Fractal Forums are not above the law, so do not post anything that violates the laws of your country, state, province, or city.  Do not try to trick people into sharing their personal information, steal anything (like copyright or trademark material), or break into places you should not be.  Do not threaten, harass, impersonate, or hurt others, and do not invade other people's privacy.
  • Behaving maliciously.  Do not post links to sites that contain viruses or malicious programs or that interfere with the operation of Fractal Forums.
  • Misusing Fractal Forums.  Do not create multiple accounts to troll or otherwise violate these guidelines.  Do not post things that are incomprehensible or in the wrong language, and do not post the same information over and over again, just to flood the Boards.  The community depends on you to report abuse, so using the forum features, such as report abuse and ratings, to target others is not allowed.
  • Doing harm.  Be responsible and do not misrepresent yourself, claim false credentials or expertise, or give advice in a way that might cause someone harm.  Do not incite or advocate violence or harmful practices.
  • etc...

We reserve the right to revise these Guidelines at any time and without notice.
