Rendered at 640x480. The final 15 seconds were rendered with arbitrary precision; I used a keyframe interpolation method to make that section take all night instead of all month to render.

A mixture of off-the-shelf and custom software was used, including custom Lisp code to generate the final frameset from the keyframes and VirtualDub to stitch the frame pngs and an mp3 into an avi and compress it.

Nicely composed.  I like how it started as a zoom, pulled out, then zoomed back in.  It was more than a normal straight zoom, but wasn't a chaotic jump here and there that I've seen done in some videos.  Good work!

Ah. I see you recognized the music. (Public domain, of course; the composition is long out of copyright and the particular performance is US Government work product.) I modified the copy a bit with Audacity, selecting a particular 2 minutes and adding a fadein.

If you pay close attention, the details "jump" a little at the pixel scale every half-second or so in the last part of the video; the nature of keyframe interpolation is that the effective degree of antialias follows a sawtooth curve instead of being steady. More aggressive AA would make it less noticeable but blow up the rendering time. The rotation also stops; my interpolator can handle steady rotation, but it will introduce black triangles into the corners of non-keyframes so everything would have had to be rendered larger and then cropped to remove those, also increasing the rendering time. The remaining artifact is that the edges of the later frames are a bit blurred, because they're actually upsampled rather than downsampled. (Essentially, the previous keyframe is cropped and upsampled back to 640x480, and the next keyframe is downsampled and overlaid on the center. This allows the final frames to be as large as the keyframes with good detail in the important, central region. That you didn't notice the blurred edges proves that this is good enough!) There's also a little jitter of the image center, which the next tweak of the Lisp interpolation code should fix for future renders.

The keyframes are successive zooms by a factor of [tex]\sqrt{e}[\tex] which I proved to be optimal (minimizes the number of pixels to compute for a given zoom video).

P.S. Why is the tex tag not working today?

Nice colours and nice match to Vivaldi's music. I tried to focus on the last 15 seconds, but it was so well done that I didn't find any clues of interpolation ... so I may use the same technique in the future. It will save me a lot of rendering time without sacrificing frame quality.
