LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Fractalforums.com
7th Annual Fractal Art Competition 2014
Rules Announcement

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/EVlgEWE5RAk&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/EVlgEWE5RAk&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

Fractalforums.com is holding the 7th annual fractal art contest in 2014.

Prizes are as every year winning images printed on coffee cups.

This is the link to the gallery section:
http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=88

Official Sponsor for this years contest is: NO ONE, everything related prize giving and prize sending is
handled by the administrator alone, a very long delay has to be accepted for prize receiving, due to this
only the first placed entries in each section will get a prize. But remember, being part of it is all that counts!

Time Schedule
- Submission Period begins on 1st of May at 00:00 Central European Time
- Submission Period ends on 31st of May at 23:59:59 Central European Time
- Voting Period begins on 1st of June at 00:00:00 Central European Time
- Voting Period ends on 30st of June at 23:59:59 Central European Time

Rules:

As every year, a contributor may enter up to 3 entries in each section of the competition,
so every contributor may enter up to 9 competition entries.

The Competition is (as always) split up into 3 sections, which are this year "Film","Still Frame" and
as varying section we have this year the "Resemblance" section.

It is desirable to publish "new" stuff in the contest, do not bore us with already known stuff. Anything
already competing in another contest, or somehow already known to a wider public is unwanted. The
administration team for the contest ( ckleinhuis ) is strictly not excluding anything from the contest
so it is up to you to either bore us to death or come up with inspiring new work. It would be to hard
to verify every entry by hand, so nothing will be disqualified, but keep in mind that something already
known wont get any votes ...

The whole voting and submission is done in the gallery, since the gallery can not handle all the media
formats, especially the videos. videos are uploaded to an external site, and entered in the gallery with
a corresponding image, in the description of the image a youtube/vimeo/whatever link is automatically
replaced by the embedding code. do not post in the board - though, posting should not be allowed there
by the forums software.

Remarks
Remark about the voting System
The winner is determined by the total sum of stars. Which means that a single 5 star vote can not outnumber
for example an entry with two 3 star ratings. Although there was an effort to introduce a new voting counting
system, it will stay this way for this year. And perhaps next year we adjust it, but for now you have to live with
that system.

Remark about Time Schedule
Time scheduling caused confusion, due to contestants spread over the whole world, each of the schedules is
a "soft" schedule, especially the entry time, if you come up with your entry halve a day late ( but no more than a day)
it is perfectly fine. Consider that entries that are longer in the view of reviewers have a better impact, and that
later entered entries might get overseen.

Remark about Voting System
During the time of the submission period and the voting period the display of view counts and current voting is
globally disabled in the gallery.

The Competition is split up into 3 sections:

Competition Sections
Still Frame
the still frame section allows submission of any image without any restrictions, photography,
layering, post works, painting. Express your feelings through an image. Attenuate Details, make
use of modern image editing software to get the last out of your image. Single Click and render images
might not be enough to become even recognized this year! Let your mind flow to create something new!

Still Frame Gallery section
http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=89

Film
in the film section maximum 5 minute long fractal videos are accepted. Let your creativity flow,
Use Voxel Stack exports to bring the Fractals into your favorite 3D Program. Use a camera tracker
to place Fractal Objects in real film recordings. Create a stunning soundtrack that is perfectly
synchronized to the film. Your creative mind might need an extension for this.
This is the champions league of fractal art!

The film section now requires that you include the following text in the intro/outro of your production:
"Fractalforums.com Annual Fractal Art Competition 2014"
this is for specially recognizing it as competition entry.

Regarding developments in the recent years, why not include greetings?
throughout the year the admiration for realtime demo scene popped up,
and they do greet each other belonging to their scene, why dont we give it a try this year
sending greetings to each other in this little scene? this is not necessary, but perhaps a really nice feature ...

Resemblance
The Axolotl last year was just the warm upper. This year the goal is to resemble a Living Object.
Living objects are plants, animals, humans, parts of humans, faces, anything related. The "Living Object" serves
as a strict distinction between "Euclidean" Objects, like straight lines, circles, spheres cubes this is considered
"Non-Living" like cars, buildings and stuff. As a starter point

- The IFS fern description can be used in any flame fractal editor as a base, get the required transformations from here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnsley_fern
Attached below is a Flame File which can be loaded with JWildfire, this program offers the possibility to re-use existing flames as base shapes, and additionally it offers layering of flames,
so, a very good starting point for onces creations!

- The Axolotl Script by Kali has been reviewed by Dr. Wisenhimer, a good starting point for an animal type:
Watch it here:

Hi Christian,

when adding a still frame I got the error "You need to select a category." Seems like cat=89 till 91 are not in the select list so it could not be selected, right?

Ok, i just deleted a wrong posted image, i hope it gets resubmitted,  resubmitting is the way to go so that images become listed in the board, just movingg does not provide that

Hi   afro

I'll give these questions a shot...

1)  For the resemblance theme, postwork is not allow i supposed?

I don't see why postwork would be a problem as long as it's not altering the generated image drastically.  Merely for color balance, contrast, blurring noise,  and the like - it should be no problem.  Adding eyeballs from a photo would likely be taking it too far.

2)  Any size restriction or advice for the size of the Post (pictures)?

The gallery has a pixel dimension limit of 1920 x 1080  (I forget the file size limit, it's probably around 1 MB).

3)  what means "[INSERT IFS FERN LINK] [INSERT AXOLOTL SCRIPT DESCRIPTION/LINKING]"?

Those are place holders for links to example fractals which apparently never got replaced with live links   bubble gum  I'm sure our admin will get to that soon.  The Axolotl link could well be to that category in last year's competition.  Have a look in the Gallery for now, and a real link will be posted shortly.

Hope that helps...

I created <a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ufbon5BId7M&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/Ufbon5BId7M&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a> around January this year so I'm unsure whether it, not being new, qualifies for the short film category. It's a derivative of an <a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/f9N10cXCY&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/f9N10cXCY&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>, created in November 2013. That being said, I don't think most of the viewers of this forum have seen it.

As mentioned, the short films shall contain an intro text, which is to avoid people dump their stuff, so, rethink, rework, provide an intro

Ok thanks for the note - I guess I'll have to pass this one then as I'm too busy with other urgent stuff right now to work on a new animation. Adding an intro text would be trivial, but creating new cool art is not.

Another question:

The still frame category is clear because everything is allow..

But for Resemblance category , what 's about the background feature for MB3D for example (i don't know if other software have this feature)
What i mean is that i can make a first render , post pro it , and then used it as the background function in a second render and so on, if every background is allow...
A good thing (IMHO) would be "only backround made into a fractal software" without any post pro ..or no external  backround or anyhting restricting this possibility ?

Thanx
