I just collected the 3D fractals I've created with FractalWorks into a small gallery. Feel free to stop by and take a look. Comments/suggestions/critiques welcome.

Wow, too many awesome pics. Here's my top ten with (roughly) the best at top  wink

1: Cauliflower 3D anaglyph
2: 3D fractal elephant
3: Mandelscape
4: Puple Pansy Mandelbrot
5: Elephant Julia Cookie
6: Swirly Grape Julia 3D huge
7: Cauliflower Julia 3D
8: 3D view of Julia Wheel
9: Julia Dragon 3D
10: 3D eyes

The Mandelscape seems to be taking a slightly different turn than the others. Hope to see more of these 'slanted perspective' (rather than bird's eye) views in your future creations!

Twinee,

Thanks for looking and commenting. Do you have red/cyan glasses you can use to view the analgyphs? They don't look right without colored glasses.

There are several more images in the gallery with the 3D perspective you like:

Mandelbrot mountains:

Beauty of Fractals cover:

Elephant Julia relief map 3D

Plus several in the anaglyphs gallery. Those images don't really look right without 3D glasses however, like I said above.

P.S. Do you have access to a Mac so you can create some of these on your own? It's pretty easy, really.

Twinbee,

A while back, I spent some time trying to duplicate some of the images from the wikipedia article on the Mandelbrot set using FractalWorks. I think I got pretty close. (scroll down to the section titled "Image gallery of a zoom sequence" to see the images in the Wikipedia article.)

I then decided to go back and create 3D versions of these images. Go to my FractalWorks Wikipedia Mandelbrot images gallery to see my attempts to duplicate the images from the Wiki article. Each 2D image is followed by a 3D variant. Most use the slanted perspective you like.

I think the 3D versions do a good job of illustrating the shape and structure of the Mandelbrot set.

Hmm.. they're still way more 'overhead' than I would like. I want to get right into that corner valley (either 1st or 3rd piccy) and look into the vast horizon and main Mandelbrot crater. I bet it would look amazing.

By the way, the "Elephant Julia relief map 3D" pic reminds me of viennetta Ice cream  wink

Really nice too. http://www.pbase.com/duncanc/image/100188634 is a gem.

Hello,
great images, but sadly this program is only for Mac. Does anybody know another program, which can make those great mandelbrot landcscapes in 3d?
Greetings,
Andrea

Definitely ChaosPro, and Yfract just included this - their posted sample looked great, but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet...

Hope that helps.
