Hi all,

Just playing:

Hope you like it.
This 4D number format seems to produce much more interesting results than quaternions, hypercomplex or Julibrots - at least for the Mandelbrot form, I haven't tried the Julias properly yet.

For those who've missed it here's the 4D number system:

Wow, this seems like the closest yet! Especially the part where there are many spheres. (though they're separated spheres unlike what one would expect in the real deal).

Even if it takes ages to render, and you don't animate it, make sure to enable a large number of iterations etc. so we can see what it looks like at the limit.

Like to see a 1920*1200 render of one of the images (my new 26" monitor is coming today cheesy )

Well it may be closer but I think that most folks will consider using solid on orbit trapping rather than solid on iteration (or iteration density or distance estimator) as cheating smiley

Hi ,

Just wondering how I can render the 3d mandelbrot creating by orbit traps you've shown here!

I wild stab in the dark, is it rendered in pov-ray?

Is it possible to view the code?

you are the coder!, you define what "inside" means ... normally for quaternions you take those numbers as inside who converge ( never leave iteration loop )
but you are free to use any volume function you like, so, you can use an orbit trap method whilst iterating, and decide by the result of that trap if the point is "in" or "out"
for those types of objects one would use a range of values rather than a single point for the volume definition ...

wink got it ? afro

think of it as a layered mandelbrot ( with certain colors completely transluent )

but what you need is a surface ... i do not know any program which could easily extract a surface from a complex iterative 3d function and export an object, perhaps if you kindly ask david for a mesh cheesy

It's rendered in Ultra Fractal, formula mmf.ufm:Solid 3D Quaternions - if you're a programmer I think you should be able to follow the code if you look at the formula in UF smiley
Note that I haven't improved on that algorithm for rendering solid based on orbit trapping yet but the new algorithms I'm using for solid based on distance estimation/iteration are a lot better than the old method for that in that formula.
